Broke LA Music & Arts Festival
role: co-founder | creative director
Originating as BROKECHELLA, this festival began as a modest 400-person alternative to the giant desert festival. After a rebrand in 2016, BROKE LA steadily grew into a 7,000 person multi-vertical festival. It became LA's premiere fully independent discovery destination, drawing audiences from all walks of life with its DIY and hometown feel. BROKE LA put names like Brownies & Lemonade, Brasstracks, and James Supercave on paths to be featured on larger festival stages. From music, comedy, & visual art, to food, makers, and wares, the festival was lauded by local and national press alike

New name reveal>>>
After 5 years of producing the large-scale music counter-culture event under the name Brokechella, we announced a new brand name and image that felt more grown-up and representative of the exponential growth we’d seen thanks to the passion and support of LA’s artist community. BROKE LA revels in the ideals and attitude that make this festival truly unique and celebrates our audience who, like us, always go for broke.
Changing a name that everyone recognizes isn’t easy, but we doubled down and created an exclusive press event around the reveal of the new name, inviting alumni artists, sponsors, and stakeholders to party with us as we ushered in a new era.
Broke LA saw record attendance numbers in its premiere year, with over 6000 attendees, and continued to grow every year that followed.
